Trail Description

This route begins at Campsite 33 in the Bright Angel Campground, it follows route to the NW on a talus slope until reaching a short 15 ft climb. At the top of this climb there is a cairned route that one can follow to Piano Alley (large rocks shaped like grand pianos). In this section, stay to the right at the base of the cliff to the north and continue boulder hopping up to Utah Flats. To Phantom Creek continue across Plateau contour NE of Cheops Pyramid until trails appear before dropping into the Creek before Isis Temple. This section into Phantom Creek is basically a talus slope in a minor drainage. This trail intersects the creek above the 3600’ contour above the waterfall slope.

Water Sources

Bright Angel Campground, Phantom Creek, Haunted Creek-Perennial Water Sources.

Campsites

Bright Angel Campground, Utah Flats, and Phantom Creek.

Special Interest

This route should be done by more experienced Grad Canyon hikers. Basic Routefinding ability is a must. The 15’ ft. climb has reasonable hand holds and foot holds. Parachute chord would be beneficial for raising and lowering packs. This section would not be pleasant with a pack on.
