Trailhead Access

Toroweap Point. Approximately 5 miles south of the Ranger Station make the first left (this is approx. ¼ to ½ mile before Toroweap Point). Road goes for 3 miles, but it can be extremely muddy and rough and it is not recommended that you travel for more than a ½ mile. The trail starts at the end of the road.

Trail Description

The trail starts at the end of the road. The trail is hard to follow much of the time. It basically stays at the same elevation on the Esplanade formation and contours around all the side canyons of Cove Canyon. Camping is at-large. There are many flat areas on the Esplanade formation.

Water Sources

None, except numerous potholes on Esplanade formation rocks immediately after rain showers.

Campsites

Numerous on Esplanade formation.

Special Interest

The Tuckup trail actually consists of three different sections with three different points of entry. The three points of entry are Jumpup Canyon, Schmutz Spring and Toroweap Point. This description only deals with the first few miles of the trail, it does not include all the way to Schmutz Spring.
