Capitol Reef National Park protects the awe-inspiring and brilliantly colored formations of the Waterpocket Fold, a one hundred mile wrinkle in the earth’s crust found in south central Utah. This monocline raises the earth as much as 7,000 ft in some areas, and extends from Thousand Lakes Plateau in the north to Lake Powell in the south, creating amazing geological formations like canyons, monoliths and hoodoos. The Burr Trail traverses Capitol Reef National Park to the South and offers increasingly spectacular vistas around every corner.
