6-Mile Draw

Vital Statistics

Mileages

Approximately 1 mile to the Colorado River.

Elevations

3540’ to 3090’

Trailhead Access

From Marble Canyon Lodge go one mile southwest on Highway 89A to mile 539.5. Turn left on a dirt two-track (this is at the corner of a fence line), and go ¼ mile. The fence will be on your right and the drainage to the left.

Trail Description

From the parking area drop into the drainage to the left and follow this down for several hundred yards until it meets another fork coming in from the right. This is the main fork an there is a fence dividing the two forks. Access to this point can also be gained by simply walking the fence line to where it drops down into the drainage at this fork. Continue down until you encounter a dropoff in the main drainage. Off to the right another main fork of the canyon joins. Contour around to the right along the top of this dropoff and descend the right hand fork. A short distance below the confluence is the major pouroff. A rappel is necessary here for about 65 feet. You will probably need a 150 foot rope to rig this however. A large pool is at the bottom of the rappel but this can be easily avoided via a ledge. The remainder of the route to the river presents no difficulties.

Water Sources

Colorado River. Also several large, muddy pools are usually above and below to flooding and should not be used.

Campsites

A beach at the Colorado River is the best choice. The drainage is subject to flooding and should not be used.

Comments

Note; Some maps identify this drainage as 7- Mile Draw. This a short, fast route to the Colorado River but one that requires technical skills and equipment. Be careful here during thunderstorms as it obviously is subject to flash flooding.
